Well, first of all, thank you all so much for coming tonight. I know it's a Sunday, but we really appreciate the opportunity to host all of you and your families, those who've brought their teens in our teens program, or little kids in the kids program. Welcome. And everybody who's joining us online as well. So as we get started in this first session, you know, today we're going to talk about this remarkable journey of the Prophetts al-Sanam. And we're going to understand what happened, we're going to understand what we can take away from it. But in order to really appreciate all of that, we do need to understand the context leading into this journey. And so I know that the topic says the Year of Sorrow, so that kind of tells you a little bit about where we're going to start.

This was a time in the life of the Prophet's Islam that was marked by loss.

But what's important for us to remember, and we'll do a little Seera refresher together,

is that this was not the only loss he experienced in his life.

His life was actually marked by loss even before it really started.

And what I mean by that is that the Prophet's Islam was born and his father had already passed away.

He did not know his father.

And I know I'm going to say that, and maybe some of you have heard that, and we'll talk about the other losses that he experienced,
