My name is Johannes Ulrich, and today I'm recording from Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a week, Apple is expected to release a Mac OS Sierra.

Now, if you wonder about any security issues or so that you may want to consider

I published earlier a guide that walks you through the update and then does explain a couple of

the security and privacy impacts of some of the new features that are released with macOS.

The main issue here is that macOS Sierra really goes a step further in embracing iCloud in order

to manage your information. For example, if you're running out of disk space, it can automatically

save your documents to iCloud in order to out of disk space, it can automatically save your documents to

iCloud in order to free up some space. It can also mirror your documents folder and your

desktop. That of course isn't what everybody wants. And macOS will also include full integration

of Siri. Now in my testing, Siri was not enabled by default.

It's something you have to enable, but just like with iOS, not everybody feels comfortable

with having their voice snippets being sent to Apple for analysis.

Pretty much that part works just like with iOS. As long as you don't

interact with Siri, the microphone will not send anything to Apple, but as soon as you try to speak

commands and such, then your audio is being sent to Apple for analysis. If you find any errors, if you have any other ideas that should be considered, let me know and I'll amend the guide as necessary.

Again, I'm just trying to focus on the new features here.

I'm not talking about any existing features like file vault and such.

So just follow standard OS10L Capitan hardening guides and then sort of update from there.

Probably the biggest issue to get across to users is that they first of all should make a backup before they upgrade

and then only upgrade from an authenticated source which pretty much comes down to updating
