and this is the Sunday Roundup. On Saturday night, shots were fired as an armed suspect

charged security at the White House correspondence dinner.

President Trump and others were quickly evacuated,

and a secret service agent was saved by his bulletproof vest

after being shot at close range.

The suspect has been identified as Cole Thomas Allen,

a 31-year-old man from California.

At a White House press conference held immediately after the incident,

Donald Trump described the suspect as a very sick person.

This morning, Sky's US correspondent, James Matthews,

who was present in the ballroom, gave his account to Trevor Phillips.

It was also normal, also routine.

I have been working, so I was quite late, actually, to the affair.

Around about 7.30, it starts at 8, the dinner.

So 7.30, myself and Michael Blair, our bureau chief,

were walking up to the Hilton Hotel, the same Hilton Hotel, outside of which

Ronald Reagan was shot and survived an assassination attempt in 1981.

You always think of that, actually, when you go to that hotel.

We mentioned to each other that security seemed lax.

We had tickets, and that was all we needed to get

into the hotel itself, showed it at the door, yeah, come in, went into this reception area
