Well, what a pleasure it is to see Isabella Yende again.

Over the years of speaking to one another, we've become friends. We've both traveled

to different cities to see one another, Santa Fe, Manhattan, Los Angeles. And I am thrilled

to read her new book, Maya's Notebook, because it's the first book in years that's set in the present.

It's set in the United States in part and on a set of islands, an archipelago of islands off the coast

of Chile.

Now, how pronounce the name for?

Chiloi.

Chiloi.

And it's an extraordinary setting and a vibrant novel, particularly because the young woman who writes it, whose name is Maya Vidal.

It's her notebook, and she's telling the story about how her life became a tumult following

the death of her grandfather.
