rewriting my historical work in progress the deepest breath

with the goal of adding 40,000 words

has been a new experience for me.

I'm more accustomed to cutting words than adding them, but I'm discovering it's actually a whole lot of fun.

Adding words to an already completed story arc means the pressure of correctly structuring the story is almost completely nil.

I don't have to worry about making certain the story is almost completely nil. I don't have to worry about

making certain the story hangs together just right at all of its major

plot points. That's already done. What I get to focus on is the fun stuff. I

suppose it's kind of like decorating a completed cake. The hard

part is finished, the cake is baked to perfection, and all that remains is the creative fun

of adding sugar roses and iced curlicues.

At any rate, I'm rolling right along and enjoying every minute.
