Hi there, I'm Samantha Coterel, a picture book, author and illustrator, and I wanted to invite you into something I really love.

It's a workshop called Paper Stories, and it's all about building your illustrations by hand, layer by layer, and then lighting and photographing them like tiny worlds.

If you've ever felt like your artwork might be wanting a little more depth

or atmosphere or even just a bit more play, this may be a lovely fit. We'll be working together

over three weeks, starting June 6 at School of Visual Storytelling, building a small theater stage

and creating a magical

scene together. It's simple materials, paper, foam core, paint, light, but the results can

feel surprisingly alive. There are also live sessions and a class space where we can all share and figure out things as we go.

So it really feels like being in a studio together.

kind of timely things and there's always people trying to separate you from your money.

Yes, both legitimately and illegitimately. There's no shortage of that. It's crazy. So I got an email yesterday. Let me see, because Jake was going to read it because I was having the ocular. I'll see if I can, if you got it, you can pull it up. But I'll just give the, the just, it was from Chronicle books. And, you know, I'm going, I got my new literary age.

I'm starting to make the inroads back into children's publishing,

been doing a lot of children's publishing kind of work.

And so I get this email from Chronicle, an editor or sort of an art director,

art buyer at Chronicle saying, hey, you know, what we saw one of your projects, essentially,

and they go on to describe that in weird amount of detail.

And then, and then they say, you know, your background and your experience may line you up
