If nobody's getting fired, is it actually a government shutdown?

We have one plea and one plea alone.

We need a handful of Democrats to stop the madness, reopen the government, so that we can get to these critical debates about the year-end policy decisions with regard to the further reforms to health care.

The federal government shutdown entering its seventh day.

I didn't say anything about it yesterday because as of yet, there have been no mass firings that I'm aware of anyway in the federal government.

And to my knowledge, is it really a government shutdown if mass swaths of federal workers aren't getting fired?

Nevertheless, congressional GOP finds itself in the odd position, at least historically, of pushing for the government to reopen.

Difficult decisions have to be made. There are no negotiations. We negotiated back in September.

The negotiation was to have a seven-week funding bill that would allow our appropriations

process to try and finish. We're trying to get back to regular order appropriations

that they haven't done around here in decades.

We have a conference committee voted on by both the Senate in the House last month

for the first time since 2018.

This funding bill is necessary to get people back to the table.

And if they don't do it, Stuart, the administration has to do

what's in the best interest of the country and the American people. They're going to have to make

some hard decisions. And as the president has said, this shutdown, which is purely the Democrats

and Chuck Schumer, they're going to cost a lot of people their jobs if they continue.
