Hello, it's Beyond Today from Radio 4 with me, Tina Deheelie, a space to ask one big question about one big story.

Today, is this a golden age of English football. Tomorrow night in Madrid,

in Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotsphere will face each other in the Champions League final, the absolute pinnacle of the club game.

With Chelsea having beaten Arsenal in Europe's second tier competition, the Europa League

on Wednesday, it's been a huge week for English football.

And there's more to come.

Next week the Women's World Cup starts where England are expected to do well and the

men's team compete in the Nations League semi-finals on Thursday.

And of course, who could forget their run to the World Cup

semifinals last year?

But it's not been an easy couple of decades

to be a fan of the England national side.

Harriet and Duncan, who are producing this episode,

sat down to talk about just how much England's

World Cup performance meant to them,

and an entire generation of fans who've never

seen the team achieve any real success.

Duncan, what was last summer like for you?

It didn't turn out as expected. I was actually in Berlin during the World Cup visiting a German friend and expected

kind of England to be knocked out in the early stages like they usually are and Germany probably to do quite well.
