Is there salvation outside the church?

For example, if I have a friend who's a good guy, but he just didn't grow up with any religion.

He's kind, he's generous, he just doesn't know much about Christianity.

Will he be saved?

church? We gave them the faith, we gave them the sacraments, but when they left home, they stopped

practicing their Catholic faith. What will happen to them? Or what if I have a co-worker who's

practicing another religion, they're Hindu or Muslim or Buddhist, can they be saved? Or if I have a family

member who has rejected Christianity,

they become an atheist, and they live a life far removed from the gospel. What will happen to them?

These are important questions. And today, I want to offer us a lot of hope. I want to avoid two

extremes, one of despair, but also the other extreme of presumption,

and want to ground us in the great theological virtue of hope.

Hope in God's mercy, hope in God's grace, hope for those we love.

For God loves those souls even more than we do.
