All right, I'm Chris Ryan. Here's my co-investigator, Jason Concepcio.

We're here to take you through season three of True Detective.

We're going to be asking a lot of different questions, like who, what, when, where, why.

That's how we're going to go through each episode.

We're also going to talk about the context surrounding these episodes and some of the true crime cases that could be influencing Nick Pizzolato's writing in the writing of season three. So let's just start with the what. Let's just give you guys the briefest of synopsises for what we just saw. It's 1980 and two kids, Will and Julie Purcell have gone missing in Washington

County, Arkansas. It's just a little bit south of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Two detectives,

Wayne Hayes and Roland West, are assigned to the case, played by Mahershal Ali and Stephen

Dorth, respectively. And after an exhaustive search, Hayes finds the dead body of Will Purcell

in Devil's Den, which is in a state forest just south of Fayetteville.

It's the trail leading up to Will's body is littered with pagan-looking, faceless bride dolls.
