It happens every first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

It is a big party that is actually a fundraiser for the museum's costume institute.

But we mostly know it as fashion's biggest night. When this year's sponsors of the Met Gallagher

announced, it led to head scratching, outrage, and even plans to protest. Because the biggest

two sponsors are Lauren Sanchez and her husband Jeff Bezos,

two of the richest people in the world, two people who are not fashion industry

insiders, who have not worked in the business, who are not known for their impeccable style.

My guest at this episode is Amy O'Dell. She's a fashion and culture

journalist, and she hosts the back row podcast and newsletter. Amy is less angry about the Bezos's

sponsoring the Met Gala than she is curious about what it signifies, namely, high fashion needs the

money, and the super rich have more than ever.

I talked with Amy about what she's calling fashion's new gilded age.

And of course, we talked a little bit about the devil wears product too.

You know, I was thinking this morning about the Mac gala. It's almost like the tech gala now.

Yeah, because the Bezos is sponsoring. If you look in recent years, more and more tech money has gone toward this event from TED Talk, from Meta.
