What's up Chicago?

I'm Erin Allen, and this is Curious City.

Summertime in Chicago means getting out to the lake,

splashing around at the Park District pools,

and maybe even taking a little paddle down the Chicago River.

In this urban jungle, we are no strangers to odd aquatic animal sightings.

Like Chancasaurus, the snapping turtle, Chance the Snapper,

and maybe even, uh, lobsters? A few years ago, a curiousity listener asked us about this. Are

there lobsters living in the Chicago River? She swears she saw one.

Here's the thing, lobsters are salt water creatures. They can't survive in freshwater. So if

lobsters don't live in the Chicago River, then what did our question ask her see?

Coming up, we're going to revisit this river exploration from a few years ago.

Reporter Laura Pavin hops on a boat to find out what's lurking in the Chicago River. The answer

yields a David and Goliath kind of tale. An inspiring story of the small outwitting the big.

The big in this story, though, is us.
