Summary

The hour began with a call suggesting Juan Soto is complacent. We then discussed the Jets and Giants, noting the Giants' stability with Daboll and Schoen versus the Jets' new coach and GM, predicting growing pains. The importance of preseason play for quarterbacks was highlighted. A caller expressed confidence in the Jets making the playoffs. C-Lo's update followed, preceded by Boomer's anecdote about seeing "mutants" outside the Aladdin theater. C-Lo reported the Yankees avoiding a sweep against the Rangers, David Bednar's 5-out save, Paul Goldschmidt's pinch-hit game-winning HR, and Juan Soto's ninth-inning homer for the Mets' only hit. Jane Slater and Jerry Jones debated the Micah Parsons situation. The hour concluded with a discussion about Eddie's retirement and Boomer's frequent inquiries about his own retirement.

A couple minutes after 7 o'clock, Bill Ford, Tubb Studio, the Boomer NGio Program 888-808-101-19. A lot of baseball there in the first hour. We're going to turn our attention to football literally in 30 seconds, but just because this was part of Boomer's ire in the first hour, I just want to take one quick one to start the hour. Dylan in Connecticut. What's going on, Dylan? How are you?

0:38.5

Hey, Jerry. What up? I just want to talk about how Dodo has won everything. He has the World Series. He has, I think he has an L batting champion, Buck, and COVID, and he has all-star appearances. He's done. He's complacent. He doesn't need anything else, and that's how I think he feels. And that's why he doesn't look like he's trying. That's a rough one if that's true, you know? I mean, that's your perception, Don, and I don't blame you, given what's going on here over the last 25, 30 games and what happened again yesterday. And, you know, the fact that if that ball doesn't go out, there's a chance he's going to get thrown out of first base because he's loafing out of the box and the defensive play. All of that kind of crap. I understand. And this is part of playing here in New york we watch everything we see everything we look at

1:11.7

body language we look at the way that you play and this is why there is so much criticism that comes

1:19.2

towards players that are supposed to be and i understand why you would be and the way i feel about wansota

1:27.2

because of the amount of money he's

1:28.5

making. I don't feel that way about Anthony Volpe because he's still trying to figure it out.

1:33.9

And still looks like he's given him. And I want to give him every opportunity to be successful,

1:38.4

but unfortunately it may cost a game or two or three. It may. It just may. But you got to give young guys a chance and have a little

1:46.4

bit of patience. I have no patience for this. I agree with you. This is a guy like, as Dylan just said,

1:53.1

he's accomplished everything there is to accomplish in baseball. And I want to see more, especially

1:59.1

when it's a $765 million deal that comes along with a sweet for his family.

2:06.5

I'll continue to say what I've always said.

2:08.2

The best case for the Mets would be they win a World Series or two, and he opts out for a bigger contract after five years.

2:13.9

Well, well, then the Mets fan would want him.

2:16.2

100%.

2:16.7

But the Mets fan will want that. And you get the best of both worlds. And again, and maybe, and just maybe, it's all going to come down to October for him. If the Mets make it and he's in October and he goes on a tear and he gets and he becomes the Juan Soto that we all know that's in that player, now we're having a totally different discussion. And to be fair, Francisco Lindor had a horrible first season with the Mets. And after a great time in Cleveland, and he's been a great player since. So I would expect the same from Sorrow. Well, he had a great second half last year that got him into the good graces. Why? Because he was successful. He was leading the team. He was very humble about it after that whole Javi Baez disaster where they're giving a thumbs down to the fans. You're never going to beat the mob. Just know that. And you're going to have to deal with it. And that seems like forever ago. All right. So that's a lot of the baseball. Tonight we've got three football games. I think there's three more tomorrow. The Giants could start at Saturday afternoon. The Jets could start in Saturday night. I think the Jets are in Green Bay. The Giants are in Buffalo. So as you look at these, it's interesting because you've got two teams that haven't played well the last few years. We know this. But we've got two teams with leadership at the top that are in completely different places. As I guess my question would be, as I look at these two, how are the two camps different? Or are they? When you've got Aaron Glenn trying to make his mark and turn around a program, Brian Dable has been, you know, Al asked me a question the other day, which I thought was really good. He said, when you went to Giants camp, did the Giants was anything different about it?

3:43.6

Did they seem cocky?

3:44.6

Did they seem humble?

3:59.3

And to me, they felt very humble, energetic, and we know we've got to prove it to you. How are the two camps different right now? Well, for me, I think that there is a level of energy at the Giants simply because from the coaching staff, they know that if they have a disastrous year, they're going to be gone. So there is

4:04.4

that kind of walking on thin ice field to it. But I also felt like there was a professionalism

4:09.2

that was associated with Russell Wilson. I've said it a million times. He's a winning player.
