Summary

On episode 8 of Nice & Neat the discussion was “Self Care”. The fellas exemplified being high valued men through their self care routines and rituals and how it also translates to self love. Often times the conversation of self care gets overlooked not only by men but men within the black community. The stigma of femininity has gotten attached to self care and the fellas disposed of that stereotype in order to shed light on the perks of just simply taking care of self! Duke, Jalon and Omar cover the importance of overall self care throughout this episode and their solutions to building themselves up daily externally and internally! 0:20.2

Had to get fresh right.

0:37.7

It was fresh, though. Why he'd feel it off like that? He had to peel it.

2:03.4

How to get fresh right? It was fresh, though. That's showtime preparation. Yeah, so we can talk about what we're talking about today. Oh, what are we talking about? What we're talking about? How does it make sense? Ain't nothing like some good old self-care. Come on. You know, ain't nothing like some good old self-care. And, you know, we got three gentlemen today that are going to present to you some of the most major components involved in self-care. Yes, sir. And, you know, I just start off by saying cleanliness is next to godliness. Hello. So if you want to get closer to God, you should take care of yourself now. Payton full reference. I like that. Come on now. Hey, fellas, I'm going to go ahead and throw out these compliments, brothers. Y'all looking good in your Jamie Fox attires right now. Oh, you see this? Yeah, yeah, the muscles is out. The muscles is out. Thank you, bro. Is that a part of your self-care right there? The muscles? The muscles. The muscles are definitely part of my self-care. Looking and feeling good, man. Dion said it. You feel good. You feel good, you play good. You play good. You pay good. Come on. I think everything has to do with how you feel. Mm-hmm. You know, how you feel radiates. Uh-oh. It affects the people around you. Come on now. It affects your family members, your homies. Shine on me, all that stuff. So definitely, definitely looking and feeling good is a, you know, variation of self-care for sure, for sure. Yeah. I think self-care is, let's just get straight into it. you know, self-care for sure for sure yeah I think self-care is let's just get straight into it you know self-care is it's self-love come on right if I don't give myself how can I how can I say I love

2:10.6

myself if I'm not taking care of self you know and that's that's that's in every sense of the

2:15.0

word from the way that I'm keeping myself groomed, you know, to the way that, you know, I'm keeping my car to the way that I'm keeping my home, you know, all of these things. Your appearance. My parents. It's all your appearance. It's everything. It's everything that embodies who I am. You know what I'm saying? That's like if

2:34.5

if I don't love myself, then you would see that. It would be very evident, you know. I think a lot of the people, even the people that, you know, the unfortunate thing, you know, about life is we see a lot of people on the street, you know. And a lot of those people, you know, are on the streets for other reasons, but a lot of those people just don't have much self-love.

2:32.4

You know, they don't love this. They've lost, they've lost the love for themselves, you know,

2:35.5

so it's easy for them just to give up on life. are on the streets for other reasons, but a lot of those people just don't have much self-love. You know, they don't love this.

2:48.1

They've lost the love for themselves, you know, so it's easy for them just to give up on life and just carry on. But so I think for me, self-care is always equal self-love. Like, I love myself so much that I want to get cut every week. I want to get a cut every week because I love myself so much.

2:49.7

You know, I want to look good for myself.

2:51.2

Before I even look good for my woman,

4:14.2

now don't get me wrong, that is, that's a lot of it, right? But I want to look good for myself, you know? I take myself to, you know, the nail salon because I want my feet and my hands to be right, you know. You want to be feeling good. I want to feel good. those type of things make me feel good you know so it's it's important to do that you know and if if you're not doing that then you need to reevaluate how much you really love in yourself the self the self-love look different for everybody or does self-care look different for everybody is the same thing i think self-care looks different for everybody yeah i think i think i think self-care Self love is different for everyone. Is the same thing? I think self-care looks different for everybody. Yeah, I think self-care looks different for everyone. It just depends on where you're, where you decide to grab your confidence from, right? Like, for example, oh, getting a haircut and him looking in the mirror and his nails are done. You know, that's like the first level of him that's going to kind of like outside of what's inside of him. That's the activation of the confidence on the outside of him. Yeah. Yeah. You know, sometimes you, sometimes you'll be more confident on outside before you be confident on the inside. Yeah. You know, so anything that I could do that could help me exude that confidence, I'm going to do. I'm going to put myself in a position. Anything. Anything. Anything. Because, you know, whatever, whatever you're attracted to, you know,

4:19.8

they're going to recognize that confidence too. And that's going to come from your self-love,

4:23.1

you know, from the self-care that you give yourself. Yeah, let's really, like, really, really go in

4:26.5

on self-care because as men, right, self-care is just such an underrated term idea concept

4:38.5

for us, particularly us black men, right? And it's something that we're so far removed from.

4:49.5

It shows up in our daily lives.
