Summary

Today was meant to be the day that Rishi Sunak presented his Northern Ireland Protocol plans to parliament, instead he told the cabinet that intensive negotiations continue with the EU. Is he doomed to repeat Theresa May's Brexit mistakes? Will he need the backing of the DUP for any agreement?

Also on the podcast, as prospective SNP leader Kate Forbes continues to defend her views on gay marriage, can her campaign survive?

Cindy Yu speaks to Isabel Hardman and Patrick O'Flynn.

So Isabel today was meant to be the day that Richie Sienek had hoped to present his Northern Ireland

0:32.9

protocol plans to cabinet. That hasn't happened and not only is that not happening,

0:37.4

In it in terms of Richie Sienek's plan at one point had been that he was going to present

1:22.4

introduced on the Northern Ireland protocol, the Northern Ireland protocol bill, which a number of

1:28.4

senior figures, obviously including Boris Johnson, but Sarah Bravenman, the home secretary being,

1:34.5

I think, the key figure here, have warmed against Richie Sienek, John King. That had been his plan

1:42.1

to do that. So there's now a real guard action against that. And you had Sarah Bravenman

1:50.0

making clear that she felt that the freedoms within that legislation were what would resolve

1:55.1

this issue. That's something that's disputed by a number of those involved in the talks.

2:01.2

I've got the Foreign Secretary having talks this afternoon with Mara Sefkiewicz, the European

2:06.4

Commission Vice President, and they are still trying to resolve outstanding issues.
