Summary

Ryan Day isn’t planning on changing his approach to the quarterbacks when Ohio State plays its home opener against Youngstown State on Saturday. Once again Kyle McCord will start with the plan being for Devin Brown to play. Given the opponent, it is fair to assume Brown will play more than the seven snaps he was allotted against the Hoosiers. But will it actually mean anything or is the quarterback competition already over? Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis discuss that on this Wednesday Buckeyes Talk plus Day’s thoughts on the offensive line play which he stated wasn't something he felt wasn't correctable. Hey, hey, where you been? But God talk is about to begin. Hey, hey, hey, come on in.

0:30.0

Welcome back to Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird, Andrew Gillis, and the words of today was assumption.

0:42.0

Ryan Day talked about assumptions. Jim Knowles talked about assumptions. We didn't necessarily talk about assumptions in the media, but we made some assumptions in the media about how some things were going to play out in the Indiana game happened.

0:54.0

And Ryan Day wouldn't reveal any of the assumptions he got wrong or right in either with Jim Knowles, but we're going to reveal one of the assumptions we maybe got wrong and maybe we're changing our assumptions now. Nathan, I am confused.

1:07.0

Last week when Ryan Day announced that Karl McCord was the starting quarterback, he also said it with the caveat that Devon Brown will play and technically Devon Brown played. So technically he did not lie about that.

1:19.0

He played. He just didn't play the way we thought he was going to play and some of that was because of the way the game obviously played out here. And when we talked with Day on Tuesday, he said that's still the plan.

1:31.0

McCord starts, Devon Brown will play, but what does that mean in a week where you might win by 70 points? Is this competition, is this still a competition or is this just common chords to starter and he wants to make sure that Devon Brown has any level of experience past.

1:48.0

Playing in games and not throwing passes.

1:51.0

Well, I don't think anybody thought that what Comm McCord did in week one was spectacular. And I think the door is open that if Devon Brown were to get into a game and do consistently spectacular things, but I think the important question is will he get that opportunity and when we going back to the day that Ryan Day named Comm McCord the starter for the Indiana game.

2:14.0

But said that Devon Brown was going to play. I remember saying something along the lines of we can't dismiss some importance for the fact that he's picking Comm McCord as the starter because we didn't believe it was a thing like last year with Jim Harbott, Michigan where they were going to have one starter for one game, one starter.

2:31.0

And frankly, what Indiana is doing that was not what it wasn't a 50 50 split. Comm McCord was picked as the starting quarterback for football reasons that hadn't laid out in practice the previous two weeks.

2:44.0

So that to me did change how I looked at things already because that I thought wasn't nothing that that meant something that he was picking him in the word that I kept coming back assumptions is the word of the day.

2:56.0

But the word that related to this to me was trust Ryan Day brought that up in a couple different contexts today and he never is saying that he doesn't trust Devon Brown and I don't believe that he doesn't trust Devon Brown.

3:09.0

This thinking trust Comm McCord more right now and there's a different version of this conversation that we've been having now for a couple of years going back to CJ Stroud even about how what does Ryan Day value the most in a quarterback.

3:23.0

He's thought of as like this quarterback whisperer and they go out and they do these dynamic things on a field and wow CJ Stroud can do this and oh Justin Fields can do that.

3:31.0

But the thing that chaps his cookies the most is like turning the ball over making bad decisions.

3:37.0

I try to keep it trying to keep it clean Andrew.

3:40.0

I was going to like yeah, I should have said grind is gears though.

3:44.0

It's like a dirty filthy little word.

3:52.0

I've just never heard chaps his cookies.

3:56.0

All right, well, there we go.

3:58.0

That's why.
