Summary

In the wake of the Charlie Kirk assassination, Hank Hanegraaff  would like to propose an all too relevant question: “Is Mormonism Christian?”

Why? Because a prevalent narrative surrounding the assassination of Charlie Kirk in Orem Utah, is that Tyler Robinson, Kirk’s alleged assassin, grew up in a good conservative Christian family.  In truth, Tyler Robinson was raised in a Mormon family—and Mormonism is hardly Christian.

As such, Hanegraaff believes this to be as good a time as any to equip listeners to delineate the differences between Mormonism and Christianity so that we can all be prepared to properly discern and discuss the doctrinal distinctives and the truth regarding what is–and is not–authentic Christianity.

On today's Hank Unplugged, I want to address a very relevant question, a question that is

0:44.3

increasingly relevant in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination. And that question is simply this. Is Mormonism Christian? Well, why is that relevant?

1:05.0

It's relevant because there's a pervasive narrative that surrounds the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

1:16.7

An assassination that took place in Orem, Utah, is that Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, grew up in a good, conservative

Christian family.

1:37.7

And there are a lot of examples that could be adduced.

1:41.0

For example, Michael Shermer, who is the founding publisher of Skeptic magazine, said this,

1:50.5

Robinson appears to have been raised in a conservative Christian home. An American actor,

2:00.3

Billy Baldwin, said this on X. Meet Charlie Kirk's assassin, Tyler

2:06.6

Robinson. He is a white, Christian, conservative, Republican male with a gun.

2:28.8

And then singer-songwriter Bill Madden describes Robinson as a, quote, white Christian son of a sheriff.

2:36.6

Well, I could give many other examples, but the truth is this.

2:46.0

Tyler Robinson was raised in a Mormon family, and Mormonism is hardly Christian.

2:51.2

And to say that is not hating on Mormons.

2:54.9

It's not bashing Mormonism.

3:01.6

It's a calm, cogent communication of truth.

3:07.9

A communication of that which corresponds to reality.

3:11.1

Now, why do I say that?

3:14.5

Well, let me start with this.

3:20.4

I think it is instructive to note that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormonism, was a church birth back in

3:28.1

1820 by an alleged vision in which two celestial personages appear to the Mormon founder.
