and today we're going to be talking about mobile games.

I feel like we've all heard the phrase somewhere

that mobile games are addictive,

and I'm curious enough to find out if they are and by how

much if that's something we can even quantify and just figure out the why.

What is it about mobile games that makes them so hard to put down?

Today, I hope to answer that question and hopefully a few other things that come along the line.

So let's dive right into today's episode. A lot of this, as many of you may have guessed, has something to do with

dopamine. Mobile games and social media apps like Instagram and Facebook give us a supposed

dopamine hit when we see those likes and we get those rewards for gameplay.

But in order to understand the addiction to phone games we need to understand dopamine.

Dopamine as described by psychology today is known as the feel-good

neurotransmitter, a chemical that ferries information between neurons.

The brain releases it when we eat food that we crave or while we have sex,

contributing to feelings of pleasure and satisfaction as part of the reward system.

This important neurochemical boost mood, motivation, and attention

and helps regulate movement, learning, and emotional responses.

Dopamine isn't necessarily a bad thing, and far from it honestly. It gives us a happy motivated

feeling. Lab roots describes it as our cheerleaders and psychology today says it makes us human.

However, sensation seeking, as they put it, is where the problem comes in.
