we were treated to both a preview and a rematch. A rematch of the National League Championship series

when the New York Mets traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers,

a preview because odds tell me that that the two teams will be left standing when October

is beginning to come to its conclusion. As I was thinking about the game, I was thinking about

what these two teams needed to get out of this four-game series, pondering the reality of how to get players to understand the importance of a four-game June series.

When they're on the West Coast or when they're at a home series thinking about all the stuff they have to do off the field, front office trying to get clearly into their minds.

Hey, let's get this one.

Let's send a statement.

The reason I used to say that is I knew the players didn't care about that.

There's no such thing as a regular season statement, but you got to do something in order

to get people's hair standing on edge during the interminable regular season.

So what do you do?

You make up stuff.

And what you make up is, hey, New York, Mendoza, line, talking to the players.

Let's just show them that we can stay with them.

Let's show them instead of losing

four to two in a seven game championship series, that we can come take three of four in their

building. And the best way to take three of four in their building, because normally when you're

on the road in a four game series, you say to the team, let's just split. Winning three out of four

would be a bonus. Losing three out of four would be a bonus.

Losing three out of four is negative, getting swept.
