Summary

Today Keir Starmer has doubled down on Labour Party adverts attacking the Conservative's record on crime, and which seemingly accuse Rishi Sunak of not caring about child sex abuse. But is everyone in the party willing to play hardball? Or have the adverts highlighted divisions between senior Labour MPs?

Also on the podcast, after Peter Murrell was arrested in connection with an investigation into the SNP's finances, why has a luxury motorhome now been seized by police?

James Heale speaks to Fraser Nelson and Michael Simmons.

Produced by Oscar Edmondson.

Hello and welcome to Coffee House Shots. I'm James Hill and I'm joined today by Fraser Nelson

0:24.8

and Michael Simmons. And now Fraser I think the big story which everyone has been talking about today

0:29.2

really is Labour doubling down on these attack adverts they put out. They first put it out on Thursday.

0:34.8

Effectively accusing Rishi Sunak of not caring about child sex abuse.

And there's a report today in the Times about Labour actually going further with these adverts

0:43.3

and going to be blaming him personally for the economic chaos and last year's mini budget

0:48.3

and subsequent rising mortgage rates. I just want to what you think of all of this.

And you know Emily Thornebury gave a sort of a pretty mixed performance on Radio 4 today.

Is there something that all the Kirstama's party are comfortable with?

1:00.1

Well no it's not. I mean the story has moved on I think. It's no longer the controversy

1:04.6

over the poster but the emerging split within the Labour Party. So we've got here from Kirstama's

1:10.7

team shall we say. These anonymous briefing say where they regret to re-end. You know they would

1:15.2

happily do it again. They're going to double down on it. And also using language which was

1:19.6

familiar from the 1994 five Blair era where Blair's guys thought that they'd been too soft in the

1:26.5

past that they Labour didn't win because the Tories had pummeled them when they just taken the

1:30.4

beating whereas now they're going to be as give as good as they get and they can start to play

1:35.3

hardball. And that means suggesting that Rishi Tuneck is soft or in this case but he literally

1:41.3

doesn't think that adults convicted of sexual abuse and children should go to prison.
