Summary

HGTV's favorite home-renovating duo, Chip & Joanna Gaines, recently found themselves at the center of controversy after featuring a same sex couple on their new show. While they're known for flipping houses, some Christians are now asking, have they flipped their theology too?In this solo midweek podcast episode, Frank addresses the cultural pressure Christians face when it comes to affirming homosexuality, and whether it’s ever wrong for believers to judge the sinful behavior of others. Tune in as Frank reacts to the backlash coming from both sides and answers questions like:* Did Jesus tell us never to judge?* Is it wrong to address sinful behavior that can hurt other people?* What's the difference between judging and being judgmental?* What are the 4 most popular secular and cultural beliefs that have made their way into Christianity?* Are our feelings a trustworthy guide for moral decisions?* How did Chip Gaines miss the mark during his recent tweet directed towards "modern American Christians"?* What’s the best way to correct someone without being obnoxious?* Later in the show, Frank also answers more of your listener questions including:* Is there a New Testament version of Jeremiah 29:11 that can be applied to modern-day Christians?* Can people be saved if they believe baptism is essential for salvation?* What are biblical chiasms, and how do they affect biblical interpretation?* What evidence shows the disputed long ending of Mark WAS in the original?* Resources mentioned during the episode:Would Jesus Attend a Gay Wedding? - https://youtu.be/Ulbi94VvxSY (https://youtu.be/Ulbi94VvxSY) Faithfully Different by Natasha Crain - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PPY2CWQ (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PPY2CWQ)Hollywood Heroes by Frank & Zach Turek - https://bit.ly/3Or82Ax (https://bit.ly/3Or82Ax)The Longer Ending of Mark is Authentic! - https://youtu.be/r1Shh2m6w5A (https://youtu.be/r1Shh2m6w5A)

Did Jesus tell us never to judge?

0:07.0

If he did tell us never to judge, how are we supposed to correct people who are in sin?

0:12.0

And how can we love people if we can't make a judgment and correct their wrong behavior?

0:19.0

So how do we judge rightly?

0:21.1

And what's the difference between judging and being judgmental?

0:27.6

Those questions we're going to dive into and a few others.

And this was spurred on by what happened with Chip and Joanna Gaines a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had an opportunity

0:39.5

to comment on this. But for those of you that haven't heard, Chip and Joanna Gaines are a very

0:46.5

likable couple that for many years did that TV program, Fixer Upper. They're very fun. They're very upbeat. They seem to have a great

0:57.6

family. I really like them. I haven't seen their Fixer Upper show in quite a while. It's no longer

1:03.2

in production. Of course, it's in reruns. But they've got this new network, as I understand it,

1:08.1

called the Magnolia Network. And they had a program on that

1:13.4

network that highlighted a two men married to one another with two boys as their family.

And the premise, I think, of the show is something like three couples go back

1:31.0

or three families go back to the 1800s and they try and live without all the media that

1:40.8

we have now and all the comfort we have now. And anyway, one of the three, apparently,

1:44.6

is this couple, this same-sex married couple of men with two sons. And Christians came out

1:54.5

online and basically pointed out that, I don't think this is something you ought to be doing as a Christian

2:03.3

couple is trying to normalize same-sex relationships. And in fact, the same-sex couple on the

2:11.3

program basically said that they're excited about being on the program to make their relationship and

2:19.2

relationships like this more acceptable, more normal in American society.

2:25.3

Anyway, Christians came out very hard against Chip and Joanna, and I think probably in many cases
