101 days remain until the U.S. presidential election in 24 until the gavel drops and opens the

Democratic National Convention. That convention is reborn, remade. It is fueled by excitement,

by energy. The fact of the matter is Democrats have momentum, they have possession of the ball, and they are on the move.

But this is a moment that must also be tempered by realism and reality.

James Carvel has tried to make this point.

Over and over again, we have seen wild swings of emotion in the

electorate among the bases of both parties, from great enthusiasm to despair, and back and forth

it goes. It seems like there is no middle ground, but politics, particularly at the presidential level,

is a business where maintaining an even strain, maintaining an even keel is an important thing to do.

J.D. Vance is something very special. I never thought that I would live to say this. I always knew it was

theoretically possible that there would one day be a vice presidential pick more morally deficient

than Sarah Palin, more dishonest, more weird, more unfit. Like I said, I just didn't think I would live to

see it. I didn't think it was possible that it could happen in such short proximity in years

to 2008. But here we go. How did the disaster happen? The professional team on the Trump campaign, Susie

Wiles, Chris Lhavita, wanted Marco Rubio, who would have been a fantastic pick for Trump,

not saying he's a fantastic guy. He's a total fraud, but politically, it was the pick that made

sense. Trump wanted North Dakota governor,

Doug Bergam and founding father lookalike, but nobody else did. It was his boys, Eric and Don

Jr., Uday and Cousay, that convinced him to make the dumbest and worst vice presidential

pick ever. The bearded Halen, Chay vans. We're effectively run in this

country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are
