newscast is yes, social media should carry warning labels at least when it comes to its impact

Dr. Murthy says social media has been an important contributor to the mental health crisis

among young people and adolescents spending more than three hours a day on these

platforms face double the risk of anxiety and depression, but the average last summer

was more than four hours a day. The warning label Murphy is calling for would say, quote,

social media is associated with significant mental health harms for

adolescents. Murphy also wants to prevent platforms from collecting sensitive data from children and he wants restrictions

on the use of features like push notifications, auto play, and infinite scroll.

But all this would require an act of Congress.
