Now is it let's back up a little bit forget the day is it biblically acceptable to celebrate a holiday at all?

Or are all holidays somehow evil as maybe Jehovah's Witnesses might have you believe?

The Old Testament actually gave several holidays for the Jews to celebrate it told them to celebrate we have feast days holy days high

Holy days all these wonderful things that God gave them many times

But then that leads us to another question

Is it okay to celebrate a new holiday that wasn't specifically prescribed in the Old Testament?

Jesus did this it appears that Jesus celebrated Hanukkah the festival of lights

When he in John chapter 10 heads out over to this feast of dedication and so the Jews were celebrating these holidays now

Jesus had a perfect opportunity as we read John chapter 10 to say oh, this is a bad holiday

You're celebrating a holiday that I didn't prescribe and that but not he just shows up and he seems to be part of it

Just like he's part of a lot of other feast days and John he just goes kind of to Jerusalem feast day after feast day holiday after holiday

Keeps showing up and there he is showing up at that particular one

So I think we have a really good biblical ground to say it's fine

So you want to celebrate a holiday go ahead, but let's look at what scripture says about this Romans 14

One person is teams one day above another

Another is teams every day alike let each be fully convinced in his own mind he who observes the day

Observes it to the Lord and he who does not observe the day to the Lord. He does not observe it

The Bible seems to take a perspective of oh, you want to celebrate Christmas? Okay, go ahead. Oh, you want to celebrate on January?

Okay, we'll go ahead. Oh, you don't want to celebrate it. Okay, go ahead

Whatever you're doing do it onto the Lord

This is a beautiful principle in Christian life that on non-essential issues

We just don't worry about it
