point. Defenders of marriage and the family are often accused of idolizing marriage and family.

After all, we're told, Jesus wasn't married, and one can serve God as much in singleness as in marriage.

Both of those things are, of course, true, and churches should see all followers of Christ,

whether married or single, is called by God into his service. But the church's failure to do that doesn't change. That marriage was put into the world

at creation, that the story of Scripture begins and ends with the wedding. That marriage

is the relationship God uses to describe his relationship with his people, and that in our culture,
