Our special guest this week is Senior Editor at the Dispatch, David French, also contributor to the Atlantic and many other places and I would have to say one of the most indispensable commentators writing in America today. So welcome one and all. We are

back from variety of trips and occasions so it's nice to all be back together.

I wish that we had happier things to discuss,

though we could talk about Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee,

but there isn't too much to say about that.

So let's talk about America's disease, which is gun violence and specifically mass shootings.

So as we speak, they are just cleaning up

after the latest mass shooting that occurred in Tulsa, five people dead including

the shooter right on the heels of Uvaldi, which was in turn right on the heels of Buffalo.

And I'm going to start with you, Damon, because there are so many aspects of this,

but I am struck by the cultural illnesses that seem to be prevalent in our society,

the kind of worship of guns that is far beyond the old-fashioned kind of

everybody should have the right to have a gun in their house to defend themselves

and their families it's gotten to the point where it's almost a sacrilegious kind of worship of the gun itself.

There's really no issue in our politics that makes me feel greater despair than this one
