Summary

I'm usually not the biggest cheerleader when it comes to grad school, but does there come a point when it's actually worth it?

Welcome to the Jill on Money Show. It's Saturday, November 6th. And we got the jobs report. And it came in mostly as expected. So glad to report that. Mark and I were just talking before the program began and we get all this data from really smart

0:22.1

economists. And, you know, it's just unbelievable how many jobs there are available out there.

0:27.6

So if you're looking for a job now is a fantastic time to be looking for a job, maybe you

0:32.7

should be asking your boss for a raise or maybe, you know, you say to your boss, hey, you know what,

0:38.6

I really want to be remote. That's what I want to do. I don't know. We've had some people who've called in

0:43.3

and they've been really clear about what it is they want. They've asked for it. And in many

0:49.5

cases, they've gotten it. You know, still, we've got, I don't know, millions of fewer jobs that we had before the pandemic,

0:56.8

lots of unfilled jobs.

0:58.6

You know what I noticed, Mark, is that when you look at a lot of the job stuff, I still cannot

1:05.3

believe how many businessy types that are saying, like, you have to get back to work,

1:10.2

you have to be in the

1:10.9

office. You know what? I just want to say, there is no evidence that productivity rises when

1:17.1

people are in offices. Yes, you want there to be some meetups. You want people to have

1:23.4

collaborations. You know, but all these firms, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank

1:29.9

of America, oh yeah, face-to-face interactions, they're better for collaboration, employees

1:34.2

are less productive at home. Guess what? That is not proven. I agree. I think that mentorship,

1:41.1

especially with young people, is really important. But I think we have to be

1:44.8

careful not to sort of look at this pre-pandemic culture as like through rose-colored glasses.

1:52.7

Didn't work for everyone. It did not work for everyone. And I think we should be honest about that.

1:57.8

You know, I do. Anyway, that's my soapbox for today.

2:02.3

All right, let's go talk to one of you.
