This week we use mathematics to help us escape from a maze and puzzle over an alleged 22 billion poundpound hole in the budget of the NHS.

We'll also hear about a new project designed to reduce the anxiety that some people feel

when confronted with basic mathematics.

But first, last week saw the release of the latest batch of crime statistics for England

and Wales.

There were some scary top-line figures showing a shocking 21% rise in homicides.

When you looked below the surface, something didn't ring true about the figures.

Why were homicides down in London but up hugely in Yorkshire? We contacted

crime policy expert Tom Gash to get an explanation about what was going on.
