Everybody, welcome to the show. Today's episode is a micro show. I wanted to talk about a common misperception, and that is the misperception that the creative process is largely about spontaneous bursts of inspiration

and effortless genius.

Few things could be further from the truth.

The reality is, in fact, quite different than that.

And it's not a bad thing, right?

This is, we love this idea.

It's romantic that spontaneous, you know, the universe lights up and my project, my book, my song,

V1 of some product just pours effortlessly out of my body.

This is not true.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed and disheartened when their creative journey doesn't look like that because of this toxic myth that's out there.

Creativity, we know, isn't without hard work, a lot of effort and refining and iterating.

But the slog I'm here to remind you is not just a part of the process.

It's actually a sign that you're doing it right,

that you're moving towards your goals. Now, I'm not trying to say something antithetical to flow.

God, if we could all just get into flow every day. But what people forget is the art of showing up

every day or showing up in some consistent way

for your creative habits,

for your creative desires,

for the outputs that you seek to put in the world.

It is that very act that cultivates flow, right?

The slog is not just a part of the process,

it's a sign.
