Anthropic recently announced a new LLM named Claude Mythos.

0:05.9

They claimed it was so good at finding and exploiting security vulnerabilities and source code

0:11.0

that they couldn't release it to the general public for fear that our infrastructure, as we know it,

0:17.2

would be hacked and collapsed.

0:19.1

Now, as I'm sure Anthropic hoped, this announcement

0:22.6

generated a lot of attention. Here's what Thomas Friedman said in his widely read New York Times

0:29.9

column. Normally right now, I would be writing about the geopolitical implications of the war with Iran,

0:35.6

but I want to interrupt that thought to highlight

0:37.5

a stunning advance in artificial intelligence, one that arrives sooner than expected, and that

0:43.3

will have equally profound geopolitical implication. Friedman then goes on to conclude, and I'm quoting

0:49.2

him here, holy cow, superintelligent AI is arriving faster than anticipated.

0:56.3

Basically, the mood of much of the internet right now about Claude Mythos is that Anthropic just invented the Whopper supercomputer from the 1983 Matthew Broderick movie War Games.

1:06.9

Well, the Whopper spends all its time thinking about World War III.

1:11.6

24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it plays an endless series of war games using all available information on the state of the world.

1:22.6

But here's the key question. How much of this is actually true?

1:26.6

Well, it's Thursday, which means it's time for an

1:29.6

AI reality check episode. So this is the perfect opportunity to look closer at these claims.

1:35.3

Now, here's my plan. I went out and read basically every independent test or assessment that I could

1:40.8

find about mythos and or its reported capabilities. I read all these

1:45.8

reports so you don't have to, and I'm going to bring out of all of this reading the key

1:50.8

observations that you need to know. The reality, as you'll soon learn, is not nearly as simple as

1:58.2

the ghost story that Anthropic is trying to convince us to believe.
