a year ago from an ancient book over at Luther Seminary Library and peruse it.

Let me introduce you to Henry Martin and then look at the scriptures with you.

Henry Martin was born 2006 years ago in England. 1781, his father was

rich, which didn't do him well all things considered he turned his back on God but his father

sent him off to uh...

came bridge when he was sixteen years old within five years four, I think it was,

he had already taken first place in mathematics,

and one more year he had taken the first prize in Latin composition.

He had turned his back on God, I said,

and his academic achievement was his God until it evaporated in his hand.

He said, I obtained my highest wishes, but was surprised to find that I had grasped at a shadow. Then his father died and then the people

prayed for him, his sister especially. Then a godly minister, Charles Simeon, spoke to him. And then he got a copy

of David Brainerd, Life and Diary. And Henry Martin was converted. 1802, he was 21 years old, he resolved to leave his academic career and become a missionary.

But first of all, he became the assistant to Charles Simeon there at the Trinity Church in Cambridge

and served him for several years and then departed for India 1805.

He was going to be a chaplain to the East India company. That was the easiest way to get there. Sort of a 10-making capacity you might say because they won missionaries at that time. England didn't in India.

But he went.

His first day on land in Calcutta, May 16, 1806, he met William Carey.

He wanted to meet William Carey.
