Summary

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

JOHN 7:25-31 - Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? 26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” 28 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. 29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” 30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”

Gary Green here in case you don't know me, I'm a retired pastor who just can't seem to

chapter 7 verses 25 through 31 today as we take steps to align our minds with the truth

0:24.4

of God's word today. So if you have a Bible handy or an app handy, please pull it up.

Read along with me. This is John chapter 7 verses 25 through 31. Some of the people of Jerusalem

0:37.4

therefore said, is not this the man whom they seek to kill. And here he is speaking openly.

0:45.6

And they say nothing to him. Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the

Christ? But we know where this man comes from. And when the Christ appears, no one will know

0:58.4

where he comes from. So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, you know me and you know

1:05.6

where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true. And him you

1:12.9

do not know. I know him for I come from him and he sent me. So they were seeking to arrest him,

1:20.9

but no one laid a hand on him because his hour had not yet come. Yet many of the people believed

1:27.6

in him. They said, when the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?

1:35.3

So here we have Jesus speaking publicly in the temple, teaching the people. And the people are

1:41.2

coming up with conclusions of their own based on what is and isn't happening around them.

1:47.7

You see, as Jesus is speaking with authority, he's telling about the kingdom of heaven,

1:52.4

he's telling of the Father and why he was sent from the Father. The religious authorities

1:58.6

are doing nothing about it, even though they have been opposed to Jesus in the past.

2:04.6

Now why would that be? Why would they not be taking action? Well, I think it's because they were

2:09.8

afraid of the people. They thought there was a possibility of a civil uprising. If they were to

2:15.7

take a man who was this popular into their custody under the guise of their religious authority.
