Welcome to the show. We cover a fair bit of U.S.-China relations at foreign policy,

and for good reason, it's the world's most important relationship right now, and it is

actually quite fraught. That's worry. There were two important recent speeches by senior

Biden administration officials that are worth considering today. One is by Janet Yellen,

the Treasury Secretary, who tried to point out that the United States wasn't aiming to decouple

from China as much as it was de-risking. You might have heard that word before,

and it's an argument you might have heard on this program

from U.S. trade representative, Catherine Tai.

Then, earlier this month,

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan gave a speech at Brookings,

which he cheekily titled the New Washington Consensus.

He was making the case for the convergence of economic policy and national security

and defending the Biden administration's vast investments in industrial policy.
