Good morning. It's three minutes after ten. It's Friday, which you believe. Goodness me,

that's a refreshing change, isn't it? You get to Friday. It feels like Friday. I usually get to

about Tuesday and think, good grief is the week over yet. But here we are. And obviously,

getting to spend three hours with you every day is a rejuvenating experience at the best of times.

And possibly because my post-Christmas energy levels are still surprisingly high,

I've got one of those ideas buzzing around in my brain that may not sound as good

when I put it in front of you as it does, unexpressed buzzing around in the back of my brain.

I think there are four elements to what I'm

about to talk to you about. The first and the biggest is Joe Biden's speech yesterday on the

anniversary of the attempt really by the defeated candidate in the last American election to

launch an armed insurrection by his own supporters upon the actual capital.

And the fact that I say those words with a slight sense of, really, is part of the problem, I think.

It's obvious what happened.

The footage is there.

The testimony, the evidence that is coming out now is incredible.

Absolutely incredible. But it's so beyond our comfort zone that I think even people who are following events quite closely attempted to go, no, don't worry about it.

And that leads into element two of the conversation that I'm about to have with you now, which is, and I hope you're familiar with it,

probably the Liza Manelli film, possibly if you're lucky enough to have seen it, the production

currently in London's West End starring Eddie Redmayne and Jesse Buckley, but Cabaret,

based upon, of course, the work of Christopher Isherwood, the English novelist,

and describing how Nazism essentially crept up on Weimar,

Republic, Germany, how Nazism was so ridiculously awful that nobody thought it would ever happen.
