Is all sin equal in God's eyes?

I think when some people make that statement, they're trying to highlight how bad sin is, right?

Regardless of what sin you've committed, sin is sin, and God is going to judge it.

All sin is equal in his eyes.

I think others might make that statement because they're trying to minimize their own sin. Maybe you've done

something really bad and you think, well, what's the big deal? Yeah, I know I did this, but sin is

sin. Regardless of the reason that someone might be using that phrase, I want to give you three

reasons for why this is or isn't a statement that Christians should be making.

So let me just say at the outset, I disagree with that statement.

I actually believe that some sins are worse than others.

And I think that this is really just common sense.

I mean, you can talk to your spouse and ask them, hey, is it different in your eyes? If I were to look at someone lustfully, another person or actually commit the act of adultery

is one worse than the other.

I'm almost certain that your spouse would say, yeah, definitely one is worse than the other. I'm almost certain that your spouse would say,

yeah, definitely one is worse than the other. And it's true also when it comes to our relationship

with the Lord. Some sins are worse than others. Let me give you a few reasons according to

scripture that this is clearly the case. Number one, some sins are worse than others because of who is committing

the sin. This is one that I take very seriously as a pastor, as a minister of the gospel. It's one

also that terrifies me. James says in James chapter three, verse one, let not many of you be

teachers, brothers, knowing that we are going to receive a stricter judgment.

In other words, God holds some people to a higher standard.

There's more accountability there, especially people who are called to preach and teach divine truth.
