Summary

Today's word of the day is 'boycott' as in NBA players are meeting to talk about potentially sitting out games of the playoffs. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was very open about his thoughts on how troubling things are to have to focus on playing basketball right now. Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart spoke about a potential boycott. What's happening in the NBA and is there anything the league can do (0:06)? Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George opened up about his mental health. He was honest about the anxiety and depression that he's been suffering from (16:57). The Detroit Lions cancelled practice yesterday and the players met with the media. Let's talk about this (23:08). Review - Sinatra: All or Nothing At All (31:00). This is the biggest sports story of the day. Messi wants out of Barcelona. His eyes are set on Manchester City. The one problem? An $825M clause in his contract that he will now dispute with the club (34:20). Uh oh. Breaking news alert! Indiana Pacers have fired head coach Nate McMillan just a few weeks after signing him to an extension. What a disaster that release was (40:30). Quick follow up on the Cleveland Indians... would you look at that... Mike Clevinger is back tonight for the team. Plesac was told there's 'no opportunity at the big league level' at the moment. Boycott. Nothing personal word of the day for today. August 26th, it's a Wednesday.

0:16.6

It's boycott. It's not a word that I normally would associate with sports. When you boycott

0:24.5

something, I think about when I was young and remember musicians, they said we're not going to play

0:31.4

Sun City in South Africa as they were boycott in apartheid. Boycott in North American sports is

0:40.8

something you don't think about. You saw it in the Olympics, boycott of the Olympics. When you're

0:47.0

trying to raise attention to an issue and you're trying to get meaningful change, you're trying to

0:53.3

get someone to listen. You're trying to figure out what your next move is and you feel as though

1:00.0

that it requires a boycott in order to get someone's attention. The reason boycotts get people's

1:07.6

attention is that it costs the money. When you are expecting someone to do something and they choose

1:13.5

not to do it, they are boycotting, then you are not getting what you bargained for. You are not

1:19.3

making the money that you budget and projected to make. When fans boycott your stadium or boycott

1:25.0

a product, nothing becomes of it until the boycott becomes large enough, serious enough, and deep

1:33.0

enough that it starts to impact money. The boycott I want to talk about today is a little different

1:41.4

and in order to frame the issue, you have to go back to Kyry Irving and Dwight Howard when the NBA

1:49.3

was setting up their bubble and they were concerned that the distraction of playing basketball was not

1:57.7

appropriate. It was tone deaf inside the bubble, too much going on outside the bubble and Adam

2:05.8

Silver, the commissioner of basketball said, listen, we have an understanding of what you're saying

2:11.1

and we are going to give you the platform. We'll figure out how to draw attention

2:18.2

to the issues in our country and how to change them, make them better.

2:23.0

So the bubble started and games were every other day, they were seeding games and the playoff

2:30.0

started and we're sitting here on sports radio and TV and podcasts and we're excited there's games

2:36.9

every other day. There's four slots of games. You can watch games from 1 p.m. till midnight, NBA
