It is Monday, August 4th, and this is Irish Illustrated Insider. I'm Tim O'Malley, joined today by Tim Priester and Drew Mn-Talk of Irish Illustrated. And guys, I have seen part of one practice. You've seen parts of two and all of one. But of course, nobody saw last night's practice inside Notre Dame Stadium except some officials, I'm told. And that's going to be the plan this month as

0:21.7

Notre Dame prepares for its Sunday evening opener at Miami at the end of the month. But I think we've

0:27.2

seen enough to form preliminary opinions that Tim Pracer, I think you and I have said this a few years,

0:31.7

that we reserve the right to change, right, as we see more. As we dig it a little deeper. Had we

0:36.6

been in attendance for that Sunday night practice, I think we would be able to offer

0:42.4

a lot more opinions about starters and things like that.

0:46.1

But no, I mean, you know, yeah, we got full practice on Thursday.

0:50.1

Drew and I were out there with, with J.B.

0:52.2

And, you know, the focus, of course, on the

0:56.1

quarterbacks, I know we have a bunch of questions, so I don't want to overdo it in

0:59.1

segment one and do want to talk more about our interviews with Chris Ash and especially J. Wan

1:05.3

Cider, because I find him very interesting and very informative, too. You know, but I want to reiterate, I think, way too much is made of what the quarterbacks

1:18.5

did.

1:19.5

And, you know, and that includes a Kenny Mitchie interception as well.

1:24.3

I think sometimes the attitude is that like we're pulling for one over the other.

1:31.3

And that, you know, I just happen to think that CJ Carr's upside is higher. And so, you know,

1:37.0

if that is not true, and Norden picks, Kenny Minchin is a starting quarterback, well, then the

1:41.5

coaching staff knows better. But, you know, it was fun kicking things around a little bit with the quarterbacks after Thursday. You know, I think

1:50.2

one thing that needs to be remembered, when they're, when they're not in full pads and they're not

1:54.4

going, you know, 11 on 11, and you're going 7 on 7 or even 11 with no pads, when a quarterback

2:00.7

drops back to pass, you know, rather than just like take a sack and hold the ball, a lot of times they'll just throw it and see if somebody can make a play on the back end of a deep ball.

2:12.1

So I think a little bit too much is read into that.
