This is Irish Illustrated Insider, brought to you by Irisholestrade.com with Pete Sampson, Tim O'Malley, and Jack Freeman.

I'm Tim Priester, and it is finally game week.

0:16.8

We've been waiting a long time for this, as have Fighting Irish fans and college football fans all over the country.

0:24.4

And a lot has happened since last week, the naming of captains, which Tim, you and I speculate about every year and get it wrong every year.

0:33.2

And then, of course, yeah, and then, of course, the ruling on Eshack Williams.

0:37.5

But we have a lot to talk about here this morning.

0:40.7

And Pete, just your thoughts on the finalization of Eshak Williams' status at Notre Dame in the NCAA.

0:46.9

And the NCAA's call, I think we're all a little bit perplexed as to why that decision was made.

0:52.4

I mean, I just, I think it's a ridiculous ruling from the NCAA, not that Ishak

Williams should be eligible to play for Notre Dame this year, but he should be eligible

1:01.1

to practice.

1:02.5

would give him a better opportunity to do that.

1:14.6

So I just don't understand.

1:16.8

It's a punitive punishment with no upside.

1:18.8

I don't understand what the NCAA's point is there other than, I guess, they take

1:26.3

academically very seriously, but if Notre Dame has found

1:31.2

Eshack Williams to be a capable student and it wants him to work on his degree and he's in

1:37.3

good standing academically or at least good enough to be enrolled, then he should be allowed

1:42.0

to practice.

1:42.9

I don't understand it either.

1:43.9

It's the strangest thing that I know there's separate cases, and that's the answer every time. Brian Kelly's told us say there's separate cases every time we ask him this question. But I like Hardy could play in a game because he defers a suspension, and Ishaq Williams takes a suspension, and then he can't play after the suspension's over. Or can't practice, is another point. I don't, all of it's, I guess what I'm saying is Hardy can play immediately and each out can't practice a year later. Kavari can, I don't know. We'll never know. Meanwhile, Greg Bryan is playing football this fall. Another sort of story. Yeah, and I realize it's not a high level of football,
