Welcome back, everybody, to another edition of Iris Illustrated Insider. It's Tuesday, January 24th. I'm Tim Priester with Tim O'Malley from Iris Illustrated, joined by Pete Sampson of the Athletic. This is going to be a podcast focusing on some recruiting, starting with Justin Scott,

the five-star defensive linemen from Chicago that will be making a visit to Notre Dame here this weekend with the expected announcement of his commitment beginning next week, which seems to bode well.

We'll talk about that.

We're going to talk about a little bit more basketball than normal because of Mike Bray's

announcement on Friday that he will be stepping down upon the conclusion of the 22, 23 season.

We'll talk a little bit about candidates, but mostly we'll talk about football and not just recruiting, but present day.

Football, current roster. We'll get to that with burning up the boards in segment two.

But let's start with Justin Scott, the five-star defensive tackle, nose tackle.

He could play strong side end if he wanted,

and he probably wouldn't put him at the Viper,

but he can play anywhere in there.

And I think that if he reaches his full potential,

I look at him as a four and a half star player with five star potential.

If he reaches his potential,

he's a difference maker for Notre Dame, a significant

difference maker in the middle of the defensive line. He also feels, and this is exacerbated by the

loss of the five stars they had on board going into the cycle last year. It just feels like

the must get of the cycle, the must get, the must keep.

And the most important thing you said, Tim, is that positional versatility, if you can play nose and strong side defensive end in the modern era, that's, I shouldn't even say the modern era.

In the last 30 years of college football, that's a very big deal.

Yeah, and let me, Pete, I'm sorry here for the, but let me insert that,

you know, we're hearing more and more talk about Norden playing more 335, which would make a Justin
