Ireland, Norway, and Spain said yesterday

that they would recognize a Palestinian state for the first time.

I've spoken with a number of other leaders and counterparts,

and I'm confident that further countries will join us

in taking this important step in the coming weeks.

That's Ireland's Prime Minister Simon Harris.

Norway's Prime Minister Yonaskar Store said, quote, we must keep alive the only alternative

that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike, two states living side by side in peace and security."

And Spain's leader Pedro Sanchez said the recognition reflected public opinion in his country and was also the right thing to do.

Hussam Zomlatte, the Palestinian diplomatic envoy to the UK, said the move would move would quote move us closer to justice

and a sustainable peace unquote he urged other countries to follow suit the diplomatic

decision while rare is largely, it won't immediately impact the Israel-Hamass War.

A trio of Nations hope their announcement, which takes effect on May 28th,

will inject momentum into a stalled political process that could lead to a halt in fighting

and also apply pressure on Israel to move toward a two-state solution.
