America in wartime, who's making the sacrifices?

Hello again, I'm Armin Alney, and this is an archive edition of To the Point from Public Radio International.

In March, when we first broadcast this program,

anti-war demonstrators were striving for public attention. Now, many members of Congress are at odds

with the White House over how much to spend in Iraq and for how long. But some of the same questions

still need to be answered. In previous conflicts, Ivy League graduates and others in the ruling elite

signed up or were drafted.

But the All-Volunteer Army comes mostly from rural and lower middle class America.

On to the point, this Memorial Day, are too many Americans disconnected?

Is there a growing lack of commitment to public service?

On reporter's notebook later on, do we now have the last word on John F. Kennedy's

he's written the last word on the Kennedy assassination. First is news update. What is the tipping

point for gasoline prices, the amount which will cause drivers to really cut back on using the car.
