Well, unfortunately, we start today with New York City's deadliest fire in decades.

It ripped through an apartment building in the Bronx.

19 people were killed, including nine children,

and the death toll is only expected to get higher

since there were more than 60 other people who got badly hurt.

City officials blame a portable space heater that malfunctioned in someone's bedroom

on either the second or third floor.

But they also say when people in that unit fled,

they left the door open, allowing the thick black smoke to spread quickly

throughout the entire 19 story building.
