news out of the Middle East. Over night, Iran carried out an hours-long airborne attack against

targets inside Israel, launching more than 300 cruise and ballistic missiles and drones.

According to the IDF, 99% of the

incoming fire was intercepted. In part, thanks to the Iron Dome and Arrow 3 defensive systems,

largely funded and provided by the United States, and to a coordinated effort by the U.S. and neighboring

countries, including Jordan, in the region. Only a few of the more than 100 ballistic missiles launched

actually entered Israel, causing minor damage at an Israeli airbase. A young girl was injured

by shrapnel, but there were no immediate reports of other casualties. There haven't been at this point in time.

Iran says this attack was in retaliation for the Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building

in Damascus, Syria, which killed several senior Iranian commanders earlier this month.

Now, despite being adversaries for more than 40 years, this does mark the first time Iran
