Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome back to making the argument. Today, we're going to be giving you an overview of what has been going on with the peace talks between the United States and Iran. Spoiler alert, they're not going on right now in the way that we would like, which is not a tremendous shock. Why did they actually break down? Is there any hope that we can get back to the negotiating table and settle on something that will actually work? And then what is the president's response to them breaking down? Which, again, spoiler alert, it's going to be the United States controlling the straits of Hormuz. And he's actually threatened to prevent anybody from taking oil out of that straight, which is going to have an

impact not just on Iran, but on the rest of the world to include a lot of the countries,

0:41.9

which are at least ostensibly still our allies. And so we need to ask the question, what's that

0:46.9

going to do, especially to our alliances like NATO and maybe even participation in organizations

0:51.4

like the United Nations. I'm your host Nick Fradis with me in the

studio. Christian Heinz, the Oracle of Virginia, resident historian, ready to, ready to help

explain some of what's going on here. So now what we're going to do is we're going to go into

1:03.0

what Donald Trump said shortly after the talks broke down. We're going to analyze some of this

1:07.6

as well as what the points were that were the matters of contention,

1:11.8

the real matters of contention.

1:13.2

So Donald Trump says, Iran promised to open the strait of Hormuz and they knowingly failed to do so.

1:18.5

This caused anxiety, dislocation, and pain to many people and countries throughout the world.

1:22.9

They say they put mines in the water, even though all their Navy and most of their mine

1:26.3

droppers have been completely blown up. They may have done so, but what ship owner would want to take that chance? This is something that we talked about before where it's like if we've destroyed the Iranian Navy and their stockpile ballistic missiles and one-way drones and everything like that is so diminished. Plus, the United States has the most powerful Navy in the world. Why can't we just open the straight of Hormuz. And the thing that we were talking about was, well, all it takes is one ballistic

1:47.5

missile they hit its. the United States has the most powerful Navy in the world. Why can't we just open the Strait of Hormuz?

1:53.2

And the thing that we were talking about was, well, all it takes is one ballistic missile to hit its target, sink a tanker, and no other company or country is going to risk it.

2:01.8

And so that's why they can theoretically, they don't control it, but they can theoretically keep tankers from leaving the Strait of Hormuz just based off of the threat.

2:18.1

There is great dishonor and permanent harm to the reputation of Iran and what's left of their leaders, but we are beyond all of that. As they promised, they better begin the process of getting this international waterway open and fast. Every law in the book is being violated by them. I have been fully debriefed by Vice President J.D. Vance,

2:22.6

Special envoy Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner on the meeting that took place in Islamabad through the kind and very competent leadership of Field Marsha, Assam Manir, and Prime Minister

Shabash Sharif of Pakistan. They are very extraordinary men and continuously thank me for saving

30 to 50 million lives and what would

have been a horrendous war with India. I always appreciate hearing that. The amount of humanity
