Iranian state television reported that Ali Qamenei, Iran's supreme leader, was killed following American and Israeli airstrikes, confirming a claim made hours earlier by Donald Trump.

Mr. Haminayi, who ruled Iran for more than 30 years, was at his office carrying out tasks when he was killed,

according to Iranian reports. Earlier, Mr. Trump said bombing would continue and repeated a call for regime change. Iran announced 40 days of official mourning and a seven-day national holiday

to commemorate the death of Mr. Khomeiniye. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Supreme

Leader's Praetorian Guard, said the killing would only make Iran more determined to continue

on its path. Crowds of Iranians took to the streets of Tehran and other cities celebrating

Mr. Khomeini's death. Israeli officials said the strikes had also killed senior regime

officials, including the commander

of the IRGC and key members of Iran's nuclear program. Iranian media also reported that several
