Rusho Radio. This is Dr. Monka Rusho. And today, let's have another discussion on thyroid

hormones and female hormones. What is coming down the

pike or through the stream of research? And I want to start us off with a topic that is

commonplace to the conversation regarding thyroid. And this is iodine. And this study, the first study we'll talk about here,

looked at 24 hypothyroid patients and 24 normal controls.

And they did find that iodine deficiency was more common in those who were hypothyroid.

The difference between them was small, 54% versus 44% so 10% more people who were hypothyroid

had iodine insufficiency or deficiency.

But importantly, there was no correlation between iodine status and TSAH. So there might be

something else going on here and not necessarily that this observation of 10% more of individuals

who are hypothyroid or iodine insufficient, it may not have been a causal

driver. And as we've discussed on the podcast in the past, the Goldilocks principle, if you

will, certainly does apply for iodine. Insufficient amounts is problematic and over supplementing or

consuming iodine is also problematic and increases hypothyroidism and or Hashimoto's. So we want to
