Hi, I'm Dr. Stephen Hassan and I have a very special guest today for the influence continuum.

I've been looking forward to this for months.

Jason Kander, thank you so much for agreeing to come on my podcast and I had forgotten I was on your podcast but you just reminded

me as we first talk to each other and I just want to read a short intro and say you are a of you

are a former army captain intelligence division I seem to remember you went to law school also

yeah I'm a recovering

lawyer. But it's not in your bio. Anyway, we'll get back to that. Not that big of my life,

I guess. Got it, but you served in Afghanistan. You are the first millennial ever elected to

statewide office. And you were a rising star in the political scene, very activist. You tell a story.

And I loved your book. This is what we're promoting today. Invisible Storm, a soldier's memoir of

politics and PTSD. And your previous book, which was a New York Times bestseller, was outside the wire. And I

haven't read it yet, but I promise you I will because I was so excited. I love listening to

you read your voice, your book with your own voice and your wife, Diana, too. I'm a big fan of

authors reading their own work because you just feel and you're just so cool

if I can be a fanboy for a minute and just say you're a really cool person.

And you were described being in President Obama's office and he's like, I think you should run for president, which is like,

holy mackerel. And you were this rising star in the political scene. And then you had a moment of

realizations that you really had PTSD all of these years, that you've been all guns firing to use an army metaphor

like all systems go the world needs us we've got to do everything and you weren't paying

attention to all the signals your body and your mind were sending to you but you had that

deep realization and got help and now you were sending to you, but you had that deep realization and got help. And now you

are dedicated to helping others, particularly veterans. And I am so much a fan for the wounded healer
