We got a showdown. We got lump sum investing in one corner. We got dollar cost averaging. What's best for you?

0:12.8

Brian, I am so excited about this episode because we get asked this question all the time.

0:19.1

Someone will come to us inevitably and they want to invest some money. Something has happened

0:24.1

in their life or they want to get that money to work, but they don't know the best way to do it.

0:28.0

They don't know how to approach it and they've heard things on both sides of the equation,

0:33.3

telling them how you should do it this way. I don't know. You should do it this way. We wanted to

0:36.6

spell that myth today. We're going to jump into this really quick, but I think before we can even

0:41.4

give answers, tell them what the definitions are of these two things. Lump sum investing, dollar cost

0:47.0

average investing. Yep. So when you think about dollar cost averaging, all that means is it's the

I'm going to buy every Friday or I'm going to buy on some fixed schedule, whether the

1:06.6

market's going up, down, left or right, that is dollar cost averaging. Well, the other alternative

1:12.0

when it comes to investing is lump sum investing and it's exactly what it sounds like. It's when

1:16.6

an investor decides to invest generally a large sum of money into the market all at once right now

1:24.1

today. Yeah, we're going to find we're going to jump right into this in a minute with we're

1:27.8

going to talk about a case for lump sum investing. Then we're going to talk about a case for dollar

1:31.5

cost averaging. Here's what I want you to take away from today. There is a time and a place

1:37.6

for both of these strategies, but a lot of times in the investment world, people just won't give

1:42.7

you a rule. They won't give you a hard and fast of how do I actually decide what's best because

1:47.5

as we're going to talk about what is going on in the future is directly what impacts what's the

1:53.1

best decision here. Let's lay these out. Let's lay out a case for both. Let's look at the case
