The anxieties, the emptiness that come from living for things

is awesome in its emptiness.

It's strange, isn't it, how something that promises so much happiness, like money,

can leave you feeling even more anxious and empty the more you have?

Luke 16. Strange parable, great lesson. Let's read it. He said to the disciples, there was a rich man who had a steward. Charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. When he called him and said to him, what is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward. The steward said to himself, what shall I do since my master's taking the stewardship away from me?

I'm not strong enough to dig and I'm ashamed to beg. I've decided what to do so the people may

receive me into their homes when I'm put out of the stewardship. So you got what's going on here?

He's being fired. He'll have no way to support himself. So he's going to win the graces of the people so that he'll be able to live off them.

Get a room in their house. So summoning his master's debtors, one by one, he said to the first, how much do you owe my master?

He said, 100 measures of oil. And he said to him, take your bill and sit down quickly and

write 50. In other words, I'm forgiving, while I've got authority to do this, I'm forgiving half

your debt. Got it? I'm doing this for you. Don't forget. Write it down. Then he said to another,

how much do you owe? And he said, 100 measures of wheat. He said to him, take your bill and write

80. I don't know why. 80, 50. You must have known the guy. The master commended the dishonest

steward for his shrewdness. Not his honesty, necessarily, but his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in
