Why Republican leaders do not want a Capitol Riot Commission?

As you probably know, the Capitol Riot Commission proposal is hung up in Congress right now,

and it might stay that way forever, not entirely clear.

But even though 35 House Republicans voted to create a commission, and even though some

Republican senators also support the proposal, the top two Republican leaders, Kevin McCarty,

and the House Mitch McConnell in the Senate, they are solidly opposed to this idea, which

would create an independent commission to investigate the Capitol Riot.

And so the question is, well, why are they opposed to this?

Are they just freelancing?

Well, they actually have reasons, and they're pretty good reasons for not wanting this.
